Giddy up: Hindley Street is more than just a night-time hot spot
An Adelaide restaurateur is bringing a taste of New York to Adelaide’s West End, aiming to prove that Hindley Street offers more than just pubs and clubs.
Cosmo’s Pizza, a Renew Adelaide venture, is a Seinfeld-inspired venue located at Hindley Street Music Hall, slinging pizza by the slice or the whole pie.
Renew Adelaide, an Adelaide Economic Development Agency (AEDA) Strategic Partner, activates underutilised property across the Adelaide CBD by offering a rent-free period for startups looking to test a new venture.
Joshua Bartolo, who grew up watching the iconic Seinfeld television show, says Hindley Street is an exciting place to do business.
“We hope Cosmo’s can show that Hindley Street is more than its nightlife – it can be an exciting and viable destination for foodies and small businesses alike,” Mr Bartolo says.
In Short:
- Not-for-profit and AEDA Strategic Partner Renew Adelaide has worked with Hindley Street Music Hall to find ways to utilise vacant space at the Hindley Street hotspot, locking in Cosmo's Pizza.
- It is a nod to sitcom Seinfeld, with references tucked away in all corners of the venue
- AEDA's Strategic Partners Program supports programs and initiatives that accelerate economic activity in the city.
There are Seinfeld references tucked away in every corner, the name even has a nod to show’s eccentric character Kramer, but the venue promises to cater to more than just the sitcom's fans.
Alongside top-notch pizza, there will also be desserts, as well as an expansive cocktail, wine and beer list.
Draught beers are on tap, including a collaboration with Vale Brewing that includes its signature Larry David Lager.
There will also be locally sourced, nostalgic alcoholic sodas from Nightworks Distillery, bringing back 90s vibes.
“We’ve perfected our New York pizza recipe (with a) focus on quality ingredients, including our own specialty pepperoni and Italian sausage,” Mr Bartolo says.
“We’ll be offering pizza by the slice or by the pie, with a range of shareable sides—some that Seinfeld fans will especially love like our marble rye.
“We’re also making all desserts in-house and are excited to show off some classic New York-style sweet treats with a Seinfeld twist.”
Renew Adelaide's roots are grounded in the creative soil of Adelaide's West End, with its first ever business venture called the Reading Room launched in the same location in 2010.
The not-for-profit launched its 300th venture in Hindley Street in August 2024.
AEDA Chair Steve Maras says through ventures like Cosmo’s Pizza, Renew Adelaide is enhancing the city's appeal to live, work, invest and play.
"AEDA is proud to work with organisations like Renew Adelaide to attract new, exciting businesses which, in turn, bring people into the city," Mr Maras says.
"The city has such a vast variety of businesses, and I look forward to seeing what the team at Cosmo's will achieve at Hindley Street Music Hall."
AEDA’s Strategic Partnerships Program supports the development of new relationships between AEDA and other organisations that accelerate economic activity in the city.
The program aims to attract new businesses, decrease shopfront vacancies, encourage investment, drive tourism initiatives, and position Adelaide as the best place to work, live, study and visit.
