No One Builds Alone: Australian Startups Facilitate Innovation with a New Community-led Program at SOUTHSTART
Australia’s startups are coming together to lead a day of immersive learning and community development at PRECINCT — a new addition to the SOUTHSTART festival, backed by the Adelaide Economic Development Agency (AEDA).
One of Australia’s most-loved festival for startups and previous AEDA Strategic Partner, SOUTHSTART (17-19 March 2026) brings together founders, investors and thinkers from across the nation, drawn by a shared spirit of curiosity, generosity and ambition.
Designed to expand the festival’s growing reach, PRECINCT will mark the opening of the 2026 festival. From deep conversations to spontaneous collisions, the founder-led program offers a chance to swap stories, test ideas and gain feedback that multiplies momentum, guiding pioneers towards their limitless potential.
The PRECINCT Program
Featuring more than 30 events, PRECINCT will see Adelaide transform into a city-wide, real-world classroom where startups across the country come together for a meaningful exchange of ideas and skills. Leading organisations like Think & Grow, Standard Ledger, Remarkable and Rampersand will deliver a program of masterclasses, with sessions covering topics from securing funding and scaling up to branding, resourcing and sales.
In addition to the masterclasses, PRECINCT includes a series of summits to facilitate connection. The Investor Summit offers a focused afternoon exploring the next wave of investment opportunities. Qualified investors will unpack everything from capital allocation to the realities of AI-enabled businesses, supplying market intelligence and introductions to inform future investments. Culminating in a curated showcase of high-performing South Australian innovators, it's an opportunity to gather over a shared vision of the future.
Focusing on emerging innovators, the Bright Ideas Summit connects students in Years 7-12 with creative leaders to explore how they can bring their ideas to life. Through discussion and hands-on sessions with industry mentors, it empowers the next generation of changemakers, opening the doors to Australian innovation.
Turning Ideas into Opportunities
AEDA General Manager Greg Ratsch says, “PRECINCT is all about showcasing Adelaide as a place where ideas turn into opportunities. By backing SOUTHSTART, we're helping founders connect with investors, attract talent and investment, and build momentum for the city's growing innovation economy.”
A 2025 survey by Startup Muster reveals that South Australia has a strong reputation within the startup ecosystem. Startups and the organisations behind them ranked South Australia as the most significant provider of government support in the country, with the efficacy of that support placing second nationally.
Over the past decade, SOUTHSTART, which was previously supported by a strategic partnership with AEDA, has grown from a local meetup to a national movement, placing South Australia at the centre of the country’s innovation conversation. The 2026 program explores this evolution with its theme, Resonance, paying homage to the human connection that drives change.
Next year’s festival arrives at a defining moment for Australia’s startup ecosystem. Amid a tougher fundraising climate and global competition for talent and capital, SOUTHSTART provides a rare platform for connection, and a reminder that innovation doesn’t flourish in isolation.
Early release tickets for SOUTHSTART are now on sale.
