Adelaide's Economy Scores Big with the 2023 SANFL Grand Final Weekend
Adelaide is gearing up to echo with the roar of footy fever as the highly anticipated SANFL Grand Final takes centre stage this weekend, accompanied by a promising weather forecast. The city anticipates an electric atmosphere, with footy enthusiasts flocking to the CBD and North Adelaide to be part of the excitement.
Whether you bleed yellow and black for the Glenelg Tigers, cheer for the Sturt Double Blues, or simply adore local footy, this weekend is set to be big with festivities extending beyond the 2:30 pm match at Adelaide Oval.
On Saturday, Rundle Mall will host the traditional SANFL Grand Final Eve player presentation at 11:00 am. Returning to the eastern end of the Mall for the first time in four years, this year's presentation will feature all players and senior coaches, providing fans with the chance for autographs and photos.
SEN SA will bring its Saturday morning sports show live on stage, and fans can also participate in Grand Final ticket giveaways, adding to the anticipation of the big match.
The data from last year's showdown speaks volumes, with last year's festivities leading to a bumper Sunday for CBD and North Adelaide hospitality and retail businesses.
Impressive figures from the 2022 SANFL Grand Final:
- 27,459 passionate fans who turned up at Adelaide Oval to witness the spectacle between North Adelaide and Norwood
- The love for local businesses was evident as spending reached impressive heights with over $2 Million spent in North Adelaide
- The footy fever ignited a spending spree in North Adelaide that surged 50% above the usual Sunday averages
- The city's hospitality venues were buzzing with activity, with $5.5 Million spent on dining and entertainment in the CBD
- Retail in the city got a healthy boost with approximately $3 Million spent across retail.
Greg Ratsch, Acting Managing Director of the Adelaide Economic Development Agency (AEDA), is eagerly looking forward to the Grand Final weekend, saying, "With the warm weather expected and two big, traditional SA footy clubs facing off in the Grand Final, we are expecting another big weekend in the city. We're encouraging people to come and enjoy the Grand Final festivities and all the action in Rundle Mall while supporting our fantastic pubs and eateries before and after the big game."
As the anticipation builds up for this year's Grand Final, locals and visitors are encouraged to immerse themselves in the festivities, support local businesses, and make the most of this exciting weekend.
