Adelaide Central Market stallholders ready for roaring trade
EGGstravagent Easter sales projected for Central Market
Adelaide Central Market producers are expected to sell almost 50,000 handmade hot cross buns and 1000kg of prawns, while an iconic South Australian chocolate maker will make millions of eggs during Easter trade.
According to latest Central Market projections, Dough will serve up about 25,000 sourdough fruit hot cross buns, Skala Bakery will cook up a further 24,000 of the Easter treats, Angelakis Bros are expected to sell about 1000kg of prawns and 7,200 SA oysters, while the Old Lolly Shop is set to make 700 marshmallow rabbits.
South Australian icon Haigh’s Chocolate, which has its flagship in the Market, will make 4.2 million Easter eggs and 80,000 chocolate bilbies for all its SA stores.
It comes as the market prepares to launch its first Kids Easter Market Trail where youngsters can collect free goodies, including chocolates, flavoured milk and a hot cross bun.
Adelaide Central Market General Manager Jodie Kannane expects the Market to be bustling over Easter.
“Easter is always a special time at our Market, with the scent of freshly baked hot cross buns filling the aisles, local seafood arriving each day and abundance of fresh produce available,” Ms Kannane says.
“We encourage customers to shop local this Easter and support our 70 traders.”
Angelakis Bros and Barossa Fine Foods owner Franz Knoll, who is also an City of Adelaide Councillor, says the Market is a “special experience” at Easter.
“There is always plenty of stock, everything is always fresh and comes straight from the producer,” Mr Knoll says.
“It is the place to go when you want fresh and the best.”
Trading hours have been extended to 7:00 pm on Thursday 14 April and from 7:00 am on Saturday April 16 to cater for the Easter rush.
