Construction of the 40‑storey Market Square residential and hotel tower has reached its highest point, marking a key milestone for the landmark development expected to provide a significant boost in Adelaide’s economic and population outcomes.
The $600 million project, now transitioning from the construction to fit-out phase, will see city-based living, accommodation and office space expand, with 234 new apartments, a 251-room hotel and a nine-storey office tower closer to opening in late-2026.
The latest development is one step closer to welcoming potential residents, workers and visitors, with an expected 1,000 job opportunities in retail and hospitality to arise after construction.
The opening of Australia’s first Treehouse Hotel franchise will also provide a key investment in city-based spending, welcoming hundreds of hotel guests each week, visiting for work, research, study and holiday purposes.
This exciting milestone also locks in a new skyline-defining east of Adelaide Central Market, with an expected annual 10 million visitors after construction.
The development will extend the Market’s footprint with new retail and fresh food space, while creating weather-protected links between Gouger Street, Grote Street and Victoria Square.
For traders, this opens access to new customers, from weekday office workers to hotel guests and residents.
The final stages of the construction will anchor a broader transformation of the city’s west, connecting the Central Market, Victoria Square and nearby residential and student hubs into a more vibrant and walkable city space.
The prime city location will also provide plenty of flow on traffic to adjacent local bars, retailers and restaurants, further contributing to Adelaide’s thriving city economy.
Market Square is part of more than $9 billion in city-shaping investment underway, approved or planned across Adelaide. And with one step closer to completion, this major development is well on its way to supporting Adelaide’s goal of reaching 50,000 residents by 2036.
