Commbank Matildas Kick-Off City Success

Last updated 30 May, 2024

This Friday 31 May, 53,000 people will fill the seats of Adelaide Oval to cheer on the Commbank Matildas for their second to last game on home soil, before heading to France for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

City hotels are benefiting from the highly anticipated event, with the match giving a welcome boost to hotel bookings. For gameday, hotel occupancy is sitting at 62%, compared to 46% this time last year. Attendees are making the most of the experience and extending their time in Adelaide into the weekend.

City businesses can get in on the action and take advantage of increased visitor numbers before, during and after the game. Those unable to score a ticket to the sold-out event will join in on the fun at hospitality venues around the city, hosting live screenings and food and beverage specials to celebrate. Rundle Mall will be donning green and gold to support the team at The Tillies Bar under the Gawler Place Canopy, where fans can enjoy a drink and watch the action live on the big screen.

Major sporting events have proven to be a huge success for the city, with AFL Gather Round, LIV Golf, and the Commbank Matildas ‘Til It’s Done Farewell Tour bringing economic benefits and increased tourism to South Australia.
