DREAM BIG: South Australian Chief Entrepreneur says

South Australian Chief Entrepreneur Andrew Nunn is encouraging South Australian business owners to “dream big”, and not incrementally, to achieve their corporate goals.

Speaking at a Startup Week event, Mr Nunn said an incremental mindset “chew(ed) up” time, while “thinking big” had a positive impact on how an individual approached a task.

In celebration of Global Entrepreneurship Week, and for the first time since 2017, Australia’s leading innovation festival _SOUTHSTART is hosting Startup Week, which features 23 events that taps into topics such as e-commerce, investment, and accelerating commercialisation.

“Have a vision of where you really want to be and be honest about the steps you need to take to get there,” Mr Nunn said.

“Be awake to the changes that are occurring (because) the path is not straight, it is not linear.

“The fear of starvation drives you to limit of what you can or cannot do, unless you are 1000 per cent committed, it will get hard.

“(So) dream big … if you don’t, you’ll never get there.”

Startup Week, powered by the Adelaide Economic Development Agency, has attracted some of the state’s most innovative minds and embraces the state’s local startup community.

Mr Nunn said setting goals within a business was a “team sport”, and leaders had to understand their team’s needs as they embarked on their entrepreneurial journey.

“Someone has to own the vision,” he said.

“You can have a team, but you need one leader, someone needs to drive the business, drive the vision.

“And know your clients and customers backwards, inside and out (so you) maintain good relationships with them (because) they are the lifeline and the cash flow.”

Startup Week, which ends on 19 November, was funded through AEDA's Strategic Partnerships Program.

The grants were designed to help grow industry sectors, benefit multiple businesses and organisations as well as position and promote Adelaide as a great place to invest, live, study and visit.
