Press Play: Five Years of Backing Adelaide’s City Economy

Last updated 17 Mar, 2026

The Adelaide Economic Development Agency (AEDA) is marking five years of operation by reflecting on the role it has played in supporting the growth of Adelaide’s city economy.

Established in 2021, the agency explores its contribution to key indicators of city health through a new showreel.

The video highlights areas such as citywide expenditure, foot traffic, visitor nights and job growth.

It also highlights the outcomes delivered through the Strategic Partnerships Program.

AEDA-led initiatives designed to drive visitation and support city traders are also featured, including the $30 Eats dining vouchers, See For Yourself and ADLocal campaigns, alongside key events such as the AEDA Business Summit and ADL Fashion Week.

Established as a subsidiary of the City of Adelaide (CoA), AEDA works in partnership with CoA, businesses, and industry to strengthen the city's economic position.

Over the past five years, that work has unfolded against a backdrop of significant growth across the city centre.

AEDA Chair Steve Maras says the metrics reflected in the showreel demonstrate the agency's commitment to the city.

"Over the past five years, AEDA has been focused on one thing—helping the city's economy grow,” Mr Maras says.

“From post-COVID recovery through to where we are now, the progress has been significant.

"What's most rewarding is seeing businesses of all sizes backing the city by choosing to open, expand, and invest here.

“That confidence doesn't come from any one organisation, it comes from the collective effort of the council, industry, and the traders themselves."

“AEDA’s campaigns have played a part in making more people come into the city, however, it is the quality of the precincts, the traders, and the experiences on offer that keep people coming back."

"The momentum across the city is real, and AEDA will keep working alongside the council and the business community to build on it.

“There's never been a better time to be part of Adelaide's story."
