Illuminate Adelaide Lights Up the City This Winter

Last updated 07 July, 2026

Adelaide's CBD has once again come alive after dark with the return of Illuminate Adelaide, bringing art, technology, music and immersive experiences to the city from 1–19 July.

Now in its fifth year, the annual festival continues to attract visitors into the city during the winter months, supporting local businesses, activating precincts and contributing to Adelaide's visitor economy. The 2025 festival welcomed 1.5 million visitors, highlighting the significant role major events play in driving city activity and visitation.

This year's biggest program yet is transforming streets, venues, parks and cultural sites across Adelaide into a connected after-dark experience, encouraging audiences to explore the many precincts that make the city unique.

A key part of this year's program is the return of Illuminate Hosts, connecting festivalgoers with more than 30 bars, restaurants, cafés and eateries across the CBD through exclusive menu offerings, themed experiences, special discounts and more.

"The inspiration behind the Illuminate Hosts program – which we started in 2025 – is to shed light on the amazing hospitality offerings in our city. We understand the struggles for small hospitality business owners at the moment as South Australians continue to work with cost of living pressures, and we also wanted to highlight these amazing offerings in winter, a time that is usually quieter in foot traffic. In this case, we aim to bring the incredible, loyal and passionate Illuminate crowd to as many pockets of our city as possible."

The expanded Hosts program is helping extend the festival experience beyond events and installations, encouraging visitors to spend more time in the city and discover Adelaide's diverse hospitality offering.

"By collaborating with hospitality venues through the Illuminate Hosts program, we provide exclusive menu offerings, Illuminate Adelaide themed items, special discounts, and so much more to our eventgoers. This year's our biggest Hosts program yet, expanding to over 30 restaurants, cafés and eateries around the CBD, and we know no festival experience in Adelaide can be completed without a good bite to eat."

For local businesses, the festival provides an opportunity to connect with new audiences and benefit from increased city visitation during traditionally quieter winter trading periods.

Josh Talbot, Co-Founder and Co-Owner of Big Easy Group, says Illuminate Adelaide has become a highlight of the city's winter calendar.

"Illuminate is a highlight of our winter every year — I take my own family to Night Visions and City Lights, and it's brilliant seeing so many other Adelaide families out there enjoying it too. From a business perspective, the festival gives us a fantastic boost to trade right in the middle of winter and introduces us to a whole new audience who might otherwise not venture into the city."

Beyond Illuminate Hosts, audiences can continue to experience the festival's major installations and performances across the CBD, including the free City Lights program, which features new works from local and international artists across iconic landmarks and hidden city spaces.

Other highlights include Unsound Music Festival, Night Visions at the Botanic Gardens and Universal Kingdom: Ice Age, adding to the diverse range of experiences available throughout the city.

With more than 100 events and experiences across the program, Illuminate Adelaide is continuing to generate activity across Adelaide's CBD. The 2025 festival generated $74.5 million for the city economy and attracted 98,000 out-of-town visitors, demonstrating the broader economic impact of major events.

As the festival enters its final days, Illuminate Adelaide continues to showcase how cultural experiences can activate the city, support local businesses and encourage people to rediscover Adelaide after dark.
