Renew Adelaide is set to launch three new ventures in the iconic Regent Arcade as part of the not-for-profit’s plan to revitalise the shopping precinct.
Luxe size-inclusive sleepwear label DormiCo launched on Sunday, while a First Nations-owned personal and home care range, as well as a contemporary and experimental exhibition space, are set to open in the coming weeks. The names of the businesses are still under wraps.
Renew Adelaide co-ordinates flexible short-term free rentals with landlords, allowing businesses to trial ideas and concepts before formally signing on the dotted line.
AEDA funds the organisation to help it support new ventures in rent-free spaces
Renew Adelaide Chief Executive Officer Gianna Murphy says the short-term opportunities aim to create a long-term vibrancy to encourage visitors to stay, experience and explore.
“Renew Adelaide’s strong connection with local creatives in South Australia allows us to be thoughtful in how we bring together ventures that can support one another as well as the existing traders of the precinct,” Ms Murphy says.
“This trio of ventures will bring complementary concepts that will secure Regent Arcade’s identity as a hub for unique offerings that supports Adelaide’s visitor experience and ultimately add to the state’s economic success.”
“This trio of ventures will bring complementary concepts that will secure Regent Arcade’s identity as a hub for unique offerings that supports Adelaide’s visitor experience and ultimately add to the state’s economic success” — Gianna Murphey, Renew Adelaide Chief Executive Officer.
Renew Adelaide is currently offering four more opportunities within the precinct, of varying sizes, that can accommodate retail, hospitality and service-based offerings.
Among successful Renew Adelaide ventures in the arcade include Have You Met Charlie, Oh Deer Sugar and Sarah Rothe as well as Leatherworks who are still located in the precinct.
The shopping precinct welcomed the $1.5 million Dymocks store in April on its first floor, the former Regent Theatre, which has since become a major attraction within the precinct.
AEDA Executive Manager Rundle Mall Andrew White says he looks forward to seeing the Regent Arcade full and thriving.
“Renew Adelaide has a strong legacy of activating spaces in Regent Arcade, and it really provides a wonderful point of difference,” Mr White says.
“Rundle Mall is well known for its international retailers and having Adelaide’s biggest and best range, but it’s also home to amazing local artisan makers, designers and producers.”
The vacancies
There are currently four tenancies in Regent Arcade up for inspection. In negotiation with the right venture, Renew Adelaide can offer funds to contribute to property upgrades where needed.
Shop 9
Shop 9, which is about 50sq m, would suit either a retail or hospitality operation. It has concrete flooring, a rangehood and bifold doors.
Shop 33
Located in the centre of the Arcade, shop 33 is about 60sq m and nestled between popular lunch-time hangouts Michuri Sushi and Ajisen Ramen. This space has an inbuilt bench, bifold doors and could be used as a retail or florist concept.
Shop 34
Shop 34, which is approximately 60sq m, would suit a hospitality activation ready to take advantage of the grease trap and rangehood. It can be combined with shop 33 to create a dining area.
Shop 36
Decked out with wood paneling, exposed bricks, bifold doors and cushioned windowsills, the 50sq m tenancy would suit a retail, studio or hospitality venture.
