The next generation of South Australian fashion designers will have access to studio, retail and event space as part of a new City of Adelaide initiative to support local, up-and-coming creatives.
The Fashion Est. — in North Adelaide Village — offers designers studio, retail and event space, as well as a chance to show the public their creative process.
Designers Autark (by Sophia McMahon), Petar Prodanović, Peloponnese The Label (by Patricia Pantelios), Josephine-Rose Arganese, Lian by Lian (by Rachelle Gosden) and Katya Komarova are currently using the space.
City of Adelaide Lord Mayor Sandy Verschoor says the shop was a chance to use vacant space and provide an invaluable experience for emerging brands.
“The fashion industry is incredibly important to Adelaide and with the help of the South Australian Fashion Industry Association (SAFIA) we think we have created something pretty unique,” the Lord Mayor says.
“It’s not often people can go shopping and see the whole process, from concept to creation, while interacting with the designer.”
Fashion Est. includes a fully functioning studio space suitable for designing, cutting and machining, giving the designers an opportunity to create new designs and the public a first-hand view into the creative design process.
The resident designers will learn important aspects of running a successful shop, curating retail experiences, customer interaction, media and client events and activations.
It offers the crucial infrastructure and elements needed for emerging creative talent to showcase and develop their ideas, designs, and business models.
“These young designers are creating some incredible works and this council initiative is giving them a platform to take their business aspirations to the next level,” the Lord Mayor says.
