Yugo Adelaide City – one of the CBD’s tallest buildings – has officially opened its doors to hundreds domestic and international students.
Standing 118m tall, the 36-storey Yugo complex on North Terrace has extensive communal areas, study spaces, outdoor terraces, gym, cinema, communal kitchens and lounges, complimented with panoramic views across the city.
The complex will accommodate 725 students, with 150 people already moved into the site.
Marine engineering student Carla Millaud, 23, moved to Adelaide from Paris in February and is among the CBD’s newest residents.
“I’m really enjoying the city and meeting new people and the diversity is incredible because they’re (students) coming from all over the place,” Ms Millaud said.
“I’m learning so many things about the Australian culture and we’re (students) exploring everything together.
“Adelaide is very nice, there are so many things to do.”
Since Australia’s borders opened to international students in mid-December, South Australia has welcomed the return of more than 7,000 international students to Adelaide, Study Adelaide data shows.
Yugo Adelaide City has also seen positive interest in the newly-opened building, with 90 per cent of students taking up places at the building were from international locations.
The Yugo Adelaide City development was led by Global Student Accommodation.
Global Student Accommodation Director Travis Harkness said his team worked tirelessly during the COVID-19 pandemic to deliver the $110 million project.
“Globally, student housing has proven to be a resilient sector throughout the turbulence of the past few years, underpinned by continuing growing demand for higher education globally and a strong preference for in-person learning,” Mr Harkness said.
“We see this across Australia and here in Adelaide, where students are attracted by the economic and cultural opportunities and world-leading status of our universities.”
