Spending Set to Soar at Adelaide Football Club’s Semi-Final Clash
Night-time expenditure in the city is tipped to be 34 per cent higher than a regular Friday night when the Adelaide Crows take on Hawthorn in this week’s semi-final.
Early estimates from the Adelaide Economic Development Agency (AEDA) show that night-time spending between 6:00 pm and midnight on Friday in the CBD and North Adelaide will reach at least $7.5 million.
In Short...
- The Crows vs Hawthorn game is expected to bring in at least $7.5 million in expenditure.
- Bank Street Social expects it will shake an additional 500 cocktails off the back of increased foot traffic.
AEDA Chair Steve Maras invites locals and tourists alike to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy all that the city has to offer before and after the game.
“Big games bring big energy, so it is exciting to see our local businesses get ready to leverage the exciting boost this Friday’s semi-final will bring,” Mr Maras says.
“Our local traders are most certainly ready to kick goals, and they are ready to give footy punters an exciting opportunity to experience the very best in hospitality, retail and tourism.
“Footy finals don’t just fill stadiums, they fill bars, restaurants and hotel beds, so we are looking forward to seeing the city buzzing—and hopefully a Crows win to top it all off.”
Extra Foot Traffic Expected to Bring "Record-breaking" Trade
Bank Street Social spokeswoman Alexia Cachin Hastwell is predicting a night of bumper trade for the West End venue.
"Bank Street Social and our new venue, Bank Street Burger, are gearing up for another record-breaking night,” Ms Cachin Hastwell says.
“Early forecasts suggest over 250 smash burgers will be consumed, alongside an additional 500 cocktails shaken and stirred downstairs at the bar.
“From 5:00 pm right through until 3:00 am, several hundred fans are expected to pour through both venues where we will be buzzing long after the siren.”
Another Chance at a Win for Crows and Local Traders
City of Adelaide Lord Mayor and AEDA Board Member Jane Lomax-Smith AM says punters going to the game, or watching in a local venue, can immerse themselves in the vibrancy the final will bring to the city.
“Everyone deserves a second chance, and the Crows get theirs on Friday night in front of another huge crowd." Dr Lomax-Smith says.
"Our local pubs and eateries also get another chance to host thousands of hungry and thirsty footy fans, and I know they look forward to doing so.”
The City Will Be Kicking Goals on Friday Night
Minister for Tourism Zoe Bettison says Adelaide is alive during footy finals, and this week’s game promises to be no exception.
"Visitors and locals alike will have the chance to enjoy our city’s vibrant dining, hospitality, and entertainment offerings, making it the perfect time to experience all that Adelaide has to offer," Ms Bettison says.
"It’s fantastic to see our hospitality, retail, and tourism sectors benefiting from these major events, while South Australians come together to enjoy the thrill of finals footy.”
