Freemasons Hall Redevelopment Progresses Within Keystone Precinct

Adelaide continues to reshape its urban core through the adaptive reuse of heritage buildings, with new plans progressing for the transformation of Freemasons Hall as part of the broader Keystone precinct on North Terrace.

The $400 million mixed-use development will deliver a Westin hotel, residential apartments, conference facilities and hospitality offerings behind the building's retained heritage façade. The project will strengthen Adelaide's premium accommodation offering while supporting growth in the visitor economy.

At the heart of the proposal is the integration of Freemasons Hall into the wider precinct experience. A long-standing feature of Adelaide's streetscape, the building has historically been largely inaccessible to the public.

The redevelopment aims to change that. Key heritage elements, including ceremonial rooms, internal staircases, and formal gathering spaces, will be restored and incorporated into the development. Selected areas are expected to be opened for public access, creating new opportunities for visitors and locals to experience one of Adelaide's most distinctive historic buildings.

New hospitality venues are also planned within the building's heritage fabric, reflecting continued investment in bringing historical space to life through contemporary experiences.

The wider Keystone precinct will expand Adelaide's supply of upper-upscale accommodation, with the introduction of a Westin hotel strengthening the city’s position in the premium hotel market. The development is expected to support demand from business events, conferences and high-value leisure travelers while contributing to the ongoing evolution of North Terrace as a key civic, cultural and tourism destination.

The Freemasons Hall redevelopment forms part of a broader pipeline of projects that demonstrate how heritage buildings can be preserved and reimagined for future generations.
