Showcasing Adelaide to the World at the 46th Australian Tourism Exchange
Adelaide has left a lasting impressing on the global tourism industry after welcoming more than 700 buyers from over 30 countries for the 46th Australian Tourism Exchange (ATE26).
ATE is Tourism Australia’s largest annual trade event, bringing together Australian tourism operators and influential buyers, wholesalers and media to foster industry partnerships and drive future visitation to Australia. Backed by a dynamic program of business appointments, networking events and immersive destination experiences, ATE also places an international spotlight on its host city and state, showcasing its visitor economy to a highly engaged global audience.
Championing Adelaide’s Visitor Experience
Delivered in partnership with the South Australian Tourism Commission (SATC), ATE26 was held at the Adelaide Convention Centre from Sunday 10 May to Thursday 14 May.
Adelaide Economic Development Agency (AEDA) Tourism Industry Development Advisor, Gemma Nelson and Visitor Services Lead, Alistair Hotham flew flag for Adelaide, attending more than 100 back-to-back meetings across the five-day program, championing the city’s diverse businesses, events, and experiences.
“Luxury hotels, exclusive cultural experiences and world-renowned restaurants — these city businesses are well-known and loved by locals, but there’s untapped potential for more tourists", Gemma says.
The city more than holds its own as a tourism destination and can quickly fill an itinerary for even the most discerning of travellers, and that’s the message we delivered at ATE."
Creating Opportunity for City Businesses
There is significant opportunity to grow the number of people choosing to stay, explore and spend time in Adelaide. Even a modest increase in visitor spend could deliver substantial outcomes for city businesses.
Gemma says: “Growing just one percent of the state’s annual total tourism spend into the city would inject an enormous $110 million into city businesses.
"We have been encouraging more tourists to add a stop in the city to their travel itineraries. The more people that are coming into Adelaide, and especially those who are looking to stay longer than just one night, will mean that it becomes a destination in itself.”
