Nighttime spending across entertainment, bars, and clubs in Adelaide has increased in the last quarter, reflecting a positive impact on the city’s after-dark economy.
According to the Adelaide Economic Development Agency (AEDA)’s latest Activity Insights report, spending on entertainment such as theatrical shows and gaming arcades was up from $5 million in Q3 2023 to $5.7 million in Q3 2024. This marks a 14 per cent increase.

Meanwhile, spending at bars and clubs across the CBD increased 11 per cent, up from $48 million in Q3 in 2023 to $53.3 million at the same time this year.
It comes as consumers are tipped to pump more than $45.8 million into the night-time economy in the last two weeks of 2024.
AEDA Acting General Manager Andrew White says the night-time economy plays a key part in boosting the city’s economy, adding to its vibrance.
“Heading into 2025, positive economic numbers and a surge in spending at bars, clubs, and entertainment venues are powering growth and boosting confidence," Mr White says.
“Events like the AFL Finals, holidays, graduations and cultural festivals also enhanced city vibrancy, driving increased night-time economic activity
The Port Adelaide vs Hawthorn Qualifying Final in September made its mark on the city’s night-time economy, with spending 80 per cent higher than the standard Thursday evening.
Other contributing festivals included ADL Fashion Week, SALA and Adelaide Guitar Festival, with shows including Grease The Musical and Chicago The Musical all on the Adelaide Festival Centre stage.
